Sunrise over Kiwengwa, Zanzibar. Pt.2
I fell asleep last night around 10:30 and woke up at 4:45 a.m. Fell back asleep and woke up at 5:30. Mike was still asleep. It was still dark out, but I decided to go out and see what the beach was like this early.
I walked over to where the beach chairs were located. The cushions had been stored away, but the frames were there. I sat on the edge of one and was quickly joined by the hotel dogs.
Slowly it got lighter and lighter, and then boom! The sun suddenly burst through the clouds.
I got some more nice pics of the hotel dogs.
A gentle breeze was blowing, and a few early morning beach-joggers appeared.
I stayed out there from about 5:30 to almost 7:00. It was peaceful and lovely.
Mike and I grabbed some breakfast, and we thought we’d check out the area surrounding the hotel, but there was really nothing to see. It’s amazing how the fancy beach resorts are surrounded by absolutely nothing. It’s just a poor fishing village.
We went back to the lodge and I basically spent the day doing nothing. I laid on a beach chair and read my magazine. Then I strolled the beach a little, listening to music on my headphones. Then I went back to the magazine. Ate lunch. Did a crossword puzzle. A very relaxing day. There was a pier in the distance, so Mike and I took a stroll and checked it out.
I listened to an audiobook while lounging on the beach. We had dinner. And there you have it. The world’s laziest day. After that grueling vaccination project, this is just what the doctor (i.e. me) ordered. Kiwengwa, the beach where I’m staying, is pure paradise. I’d stay here for another month if I could.
Tomorrow at 8:00, we have a local tour set up. We’ll be driving ATVs (all-terrain vehicles) around town. I’m interested in seeing what else is in this area, because when we strolled around, we didn’t see much of anything. I’ve never driven anything like an ATV, so it’ll be an experience.
