This book attempts to cover the entirety of LGBT history from before 1492 to the present day.  The first two thirds of the book didn’t feel very much like a history book.  It tried to cover about 500 years of LGBT history in 300 pages, which was a formidable task, and most of the time it just came off as a list of names and events and a brief description of gay culture intersected with American history.  If felt that it really had more to do with societal opinions of sex and gender than with actual gay history, until the very end, where the early days of the gay liberation movement was covered very well.  Unfortunately, the book ends around 1990.  A little dry and academic in many areas.  I really only enjoyed the last 50 pages of the book, I must say.
